When Things Get Difficult: How to Deal with "Sounding Bad"

Have you ever been frustrated because something you're practicing is really difficult? Well that's totally normal. We've all been there!

Here's what you can do when this happens:

Remind yourself that if something is difficult, it just means that you're learning something new. If a piece is easy for you, it means you may not be learning as much as you could be if you were practicing something more challenging.

When we sound bad, it means we're probably learning something new, which will become easy over time with enough practice. Just think about what you did 6 months ago or even a year ago that seems easy now. Because you took time to practice through it, that challenge became easy.

That being said, treat yourself! Play something easy once in a while that makes you feel good. However, be comfortable playing things that sound bad too. If you spend as much time as you can working on challenges, you'll see the greatest improvement in the long run.
