Jazz Piano Lessons for Students in Middle School or High School

Jazz piano lessons at CMA are for the dedicated student who wants to focus on jazz piano techniques. These lessons will help students achieve the musical skills required to excel in their school jazz bands and beyond.

Middle school students new to jazz piano, are encouraged to join our intensive jazz piano course before moving to private lessons. This course will require daily practice and students will be given the tools to become functional and excel in their school jazz programs. Once they have completed the course, they will be placed with a jazz piano teacher who fits their personality and goals.

Students who choose to study jazz piano privately may be asked to practice a certain amount of classical music as the increased sense of technique and harmony will benefit their jazz development.

  • Time Feel/Groove
  • Theory
  • Tone/Balance
  • Musicianship
  • Ear Training/Transcribing
  • Repertoire
  • Voicings
  • Improvisation
  • Solo Piano and Ensemble Playing

There will be three casual and fun recitals per year where students perform. In addition to the weekly piano lessons, there will be 14 electives through the school year. Electives are meant to help broaden enrich the music learning process.
