3 Tips For Learning a Song by Ear

Here are 3 tips you can follow if you are learning a song by ear for the first time:

  1. Be patient: learning songs by ear takes practice, so don’t be discouraged if it takes time for you to figure out the first few notes.
  2. Take time to really get to know the tune: Listen to it several times and try singing along with the melody so that you really know how the melody is supposed to sound.
  3. Finding the first notes: Focus on the first note by humming it, and then match the pitch on your instrument. Remember that this process is a matter of trial and error, so it is okay to sound bad or not get the notes right the first time. As long as you work hard at it you will figure it out!
