Piano Lessons for Transfer Students Ages 5-11

Students with previous experience are able to take advantage of the programs offered at Creative Music Adventures.  Since each situation is unique, we ask that all transfer students and parents schedule an interview to determine what would be the best lesson choice.

Group lessons are available for transfer students.  We will need to hear the students play pieces they worked on in their most recent lessons so we can place them properly.  Please bring all current books and lesson materials for the interview.  This is not a formal audition.  Most of the time will be spent asking questions and getting to know the teacher.  Once the interview is complete, either group or private lessons will be offered to the student.

Group piano lessons are very fun for children.  They provide an exciting and supportive environment for children to learn to play the piano.  The classes are 50 minutes long and meet once a week.  Each class is grouped by age and skill level.  The group classes focus on musicianship and piano fundamentals.  Read more about our group piano policies and tuition information here.

Private lessons are for children who would like to focus more on developing piano repertoire and performance techniques.  The lessons will be approached in a more traditional format with a few key differences.  The main differences are that ear training, improvisation, composition and theory concepts are seamlessly planned into each lesson.

Students will be responsible for preparing the material at home between each lesson.  The amount of material covered will be more demanding than the group lessons. Students will need an 88-key instrument with a weighted hammer action at home.  We can help give advice on the best instrument for your musical and financial situation.

Students with enough experience will have the option of focusing on various types of music.  Creative Music Adventures offers the student choices between classical, jazz and popular styles.  A certain level of proficiency will be required before choosing some of the above styles.  Usually at young ages, a combination of musical styles works best in developing a students overall musicianship.
